CREVATIS Most of the features work nicely. This software does give you a feeling like you have a little more control over what goes on with your computer. Little Snitch give you much more granular control over what this program does with its "anti-spyware". The biggest problem is the Data filter feature often causes kernel panics when it catches data you want to filter. When asking their tech support for a solution to this all they offered was to try re-installing the software. After that they have ignored me and have to answered questions for further help with this issue. So if you buy this software, you are on your own. Their support stinks. (Version 10.5.3)

BS0D It seems that the app keeps me from using the search function on websites. on MU for example, I get a blank page when I try a search. Any advice? (Version 10.5.3)

MISHA how are you initiating the search on MU? (Version 10.5.3)

BS0D Yep, and it doesn't work... blank page. Off the top of my head I cant give you any other examples but there are other sites whose search function doesnt work since I installed X5 (Version 10.5.3)

BS0D oops, sorry just realized you wrote "HOW"! Not sure what you mean though... I just type my search in the box, and hit enter or click "Go", how else would you search? (Version 10.5.3)

JUSTIN K. I had the same issue too 2 month ago Maybe you should uncheck the box "Hide information on the last website visited" from Privacy>Data>Surf ===>information hiding it has worked for me... ;-) (Version 10.5.3)

MISHA BS0D: The reason I was asking is because we have blocked some third party tools from searching our site. Obviously if you are searching macupdate.com from the home page you should not have an issue. I'll investigate this further to make sure it's not an issue at our end. Is it affecting other search engines you use, as well? (Version 10.5.3)

DP8 If you have cookies disabled, or are hiding browser information like the user agent string, MU search will not return results. (Version 10.5.3)

BS0D JustinK, Misha and VictorB: Thank you all for your concern. Misha, Victor, please don't worry. JustinK, you just solved my problem. It seems like MU requires to see the last website I visited to let me search the site (too bad, because I prefer to hide my info and surfing info when I'm online, but oh well)! I have finally managed to configure NetBarrier the way I want it, and I'm starting to appreciate it more and more. And I'm also finding it less invasive. Thanks again everyone :) (Version 10.5.3)

SHMK I got this with the promo bundle, I configured it with the simple setting and then started to get all sorts of weird problems with my browser search engines stopped working and stuff like that. I can't say 100% if netbarrier was the problem or my configuration of it but since I have uninstalled it everything is running fine again. Strange. (Version 10.5.3)

BS0D Brings a solution to the useless OS X built-in firewall, but too invasive when you configure it to max protection. this is not what you'd expect from an app that expensive. glad it was included in the MUPromo bundle because I would never have bought it by itself. Also, very painful to configure. It takes a while to figure out how it works if you're familiar with the panel... Have to say, I like Little Snitch better. It is less invasive and more discreet. JUSTIN K. I've recently bought netbarrier from Intego and I think it's a must because it's not only a classic firewall, it's a "bundle" of several tiny apps... First, it's a two-way firewall that can blocks or allows incoming or outgoing connections and detects any spyware attempt to connect the internet from your computer. You can also protect your data by encrypting any credit card numbers or passwords, define some rules when you are surfing the web, monitor the internet traffic by application or port, check the wifi hotspot status near you and cleans your browsers with caches, cookies, history, bookmark with washing machine I'm very satisfied about this product and I recommend it if you're not happy with the OSX built-in firewall (Version 10.5.3)

RIMPOCE Im using the trial (30 days) since Im not completely satisfied of the mac firewall application, and cannot spend days and days learning how to manage the unix firewall - even noobproof is a bit too complicate for an average user like me. So far, after teaching net barrier how to react, I've encountered no problems at all: no crash, no undesired services block, no slowdown in my old macmini working, no interference with my heavy internet and intranet work.I had to install it to prevent further problems (hacking tried on my mac , I think through Upnp open ports- now Upnp is shut down) and I have to say Im fairly satisfied. Net Barrier is a bit expensive (when it will be discounted again with a MacUpdate promo?) but I think, since Mac hardware and software is becoming more and more popular, there are some security risks, and people working on the computer several hours cant sacrifice hours just to try to prevent hackers to ruin their work. So I think I'll buy the license, since, at least with this last updated version, I've not experienced any of the troubles other users had apparently, and finally I saved lot of time and I feel (and I am) safer in my work environment. BACKPACKER It doesn't take that much effort to configure NB X5 or to navigate its interface. I didn't have to go through all 175 pages of the manual, although it was both very helpful and fun to read. My gripe is that although the NB X5 dmg opens to reveal installer folders for various languages, using the English installer (for example) results in multi-lingual Intego apps. Please clean up the installers. Thanks. (Version 10.5.3)

NINJABOY X5 didn't work for me either. As noted above, I also seemed to have a code for another version. When this problem was eventually sorted, the app interfered too much with my internet connection, cutting it off altogether, in most cases. Had to uninstall. Waste of time and money. VINCE.NT I cannot find any reason to upgrade to X5. X4 still works with Leopard, and the User Interface is far easier to use than X5. (Version 10.5.2)

KZX72 The new graphical interface is hideous (when compared to X4) and honestly, why the hell isn't the log part of the main window like it was in every other version? What genius made this decision? Also, why isn't there an option to remove the Netbarrier menubar icon from...Netbarrier? Why is it hidden away in Netupdate? (Version 10.5.2)
