GABBLE  What I really miss with iTunes is a real tagging system, with spotlight integration.

I would also miss flac, ogg, etc., but tagging support for me is vital.

DOUG ENGELBART  This fat app still has no separate visualizer window. Shame on you, Apple. We users wanna see a playlist/minilist window AND a resizeable visualizer window next to it (and not just 'one way or the other'). We users wanna see visualizations while we browse the lists (and vice versa). Older mp3players like Audion etc.pp. offer more viewing comfort and customization.

FUMDUQ  Really? 4 Stars?

This is the (sadly) ubiquitous music player for mac os x. The only reason I have it installed is to activate and backup my iphone.

1) Big, clunky intereface

2) tagging is very poorly done

3) Media stored on NAS is not natively rescannable

4) Using (the same) media from multiple location is impossible without a bit of hackery. Occasionally I use multiple machines to import music. It will appear on only the machine, without a real option to rescan the volume that it's on.

5) Playlist support is just plain lame

6) I can go on and on forever about this app and how poorly it's done.

VoxApp has been a nice alternative, but the playlist support is also not great. If development on this program continues, watch out iTunes.

I suggest anything else if you can deal with it.

SERBIAN  MUCH slower, eating RAM like crazy, sometimes non-responsive and I have a feeling that I'm on my good old G3 instead of latest iMac 24" full of RAM..

BUZZARD  One change not announced by Apple's release notes is that iTunes 8.2 will apparently make it impossible to jailbreak your iPhone using this version.

From

http://www.quickpwn.com/

"Today’s iTunes 8.2 update changes the way your computer talks to the device. This affects things like QuickPwn and PwnageTool when they try to identify what’s connected. Also, ssh over usb breaks due to same reasons. Fixes are in the works but for now avoid 8.2."

For now, don't upgrade if you want to jailbreak an iPhone or iTouch......

SIMPLYMINTS  At the advise of Software Update, I have just downloaded and installed 8.1.1, and now all my songs sound very strange. Some seem to have a loud instrumental while singing sounds like it's coming from across the street. Some songs sound like they're under water. Some songs sound like they're being played in a pipe or a tunnel, sort of echo, or have an unrealistic effect to them. Some are just plain utterly soft even with all volume settings at maximum. I really can't listen to my music like this. I've gone through all the settings and tried everything I can think of. I regret upgrading. It was fine before. Seems like this happened a few years ago also, or did I dream it?

ANONYMOUS  Sound is real bad.

I have high-end equipment connected to my Mac, and the previous version worked, but as soon as I updated, all my songs plays with popcorn noise (they are in pure AIFF format, ripped with CD-paranoia x 1000).

-My recommendation: Stay with the previous version of iTunes, if you have sensitive ears, or 'revert' to MaltX. ;)

ALBABE  I have had similar problems... Mine are more like tiny empty spaces in the track.

They seem to come and go, and are generally fixed with a reboot.

ROBOTANK  Those have got to be the most detailed release notes Apple has ever published! Personally, I was starting to like the "Improves the overall stability of ..." release notes that Apple provided with some recent iLife and iWork updates :)
