DESCRIPTION
Transmission is a fast, easy, and free multi-platform BitTorrent client.
Transmission sets initial preferences so things "Just Work", while advanced features like watch directories, bad peer blocking, and the web interface can be configured with just a few clicks. Macworld put it this way: "It's fast, it's extremely lightweight, and — even though it's available for a variety of platforms — it behaves just as you'd expect a Mac program to."
Transmission supports full encryption, file selection, a web-based interface, groups, peer exchange, automatic port forwarding, webseeds, watch directories, tracker editing, global and per-torrent speed limits, and more.
Its code is freely available online and is licensed under either the GNU Public License v2 or the MIT License. The development team welcomes anyone who is interested in contributing code, documentation, translations, or other help.

BATGIRLSHOPS Transmission froze twice in less than an hour while downloading. This has been going on since the last version, and although it doesn't happen too often it is annoying. Is there a workaround? (Version 1.76)

KKNOPP LOVE ALL the new features. There are some even some Windows apps don't have. Keep up the GREAT work! (Version 1.76)

ROBOTANK Transmission 1.76 does not correctly report uploaded and downloaded data amounts to the tracker. It's already been banned by at least one private tracker that I'm aware of. I strongly suggest that anyone using private trackers, where accurate data measuring is important, stick with 1.75 or revert to it if you've already upgraded. (Version 1.76)

LIVINGS124 The devs have not been told this, and quite frankly it sounds made up. Can you contact them with more information? (Version 1.76)

TIAGO I can confirm that information... At least one private tracker has already banned version 1.7.6 (Version 1.76)

ROBOTANK I can definitely file a bug report if the devs are unaware of this problem. My own experience with 1.76 in the short time I used it confirms the issue--multiple private trackers were reporting substantially different data amounts (that is, in the hundreds of megabytes) for me than Transmission was showing, an issue i didn't have with 1.75, where data amounts were spot on. I'll pop over to the Transmission website today and report this if it hasn't already been done. (Version 1.76)

ROBOTANK Sorry to post again--MU won't let me edit that post even though it's been less than five minutes. I just wanted to assure you that I'm not making anything up here to slander Transmission. I think Transmission is the best Mac torrent client, and I've used it almost exclusively for several years. I'm simply giving fellow users the heads-up on an important issue by posting a comment (not a review!) containing information I've confirmed to be true. (Version 1.76)

DOPPELBOCK I've gone back to to 1.75 as well. Since upgrading to 1.76 I noticed that active torrents were not showing up on my account on the tracker and were appearing/disappearing seemingly randomly. (Version 1.76)

SAMUEL222 TO THREEDEE912: The default in my case is maximum 200 connections, but usually I have no more than 30-40. So the problem seems to be in something different. (Version 1.76)

SPRINGHEELMAC I had the same problem and could not use the internet while sharing with any kind of speed. Forget about using Vonage. This being unacceptable, I thoroughly tested all versions and found 1.42 to allow sharing and decent browsing speeds at the same time. Its a little bit of a trade off though; something about the way 1.42 handles peers makes the timing of the sharing, um, a little random. Still, it allows me to "surf and share" so thats the version I currently use. And yes, I've tried ALL the versions available extensively before settling on that one. Also, prior to OS X 10.5.8 this wasn't always the case, so it may be a synergistic effect between the operation system version and Transmission. (Version 1.76)

SPRINGHEELMAC Hmmm... I also hit "reply" to the below and got a new comment instead. (Version 1.76)

THREEDEE912 Try decreasing the amount of connections it makes in the prefs. Some routers don't like it when apps like Transmission try to make 500 connections at a time. I have mine set to 250 without much of a slowdown. (Version 1.76)

THREEDEE912 Meant that as a reply to the comment below mine. Glitchy comment system? (Version 1.76)

SAMUEL222 I love this app, the download is quite fast. The only annoying thing is that using only part of my bandwidth (say, 1/5), it nevertheless does not allow me to download anything else. In other words, when transmission is working, I can see that it uses only a small part of my bandwidth. But, at that time my internet connection is essentially paralyzed. My computer: MacBook Snow Leopard OS. (Version 1.76)

::MILE:: Same here...and it's been like that as long as I can think back with previous versions of Transmission and even on different computers...!! :( So there's clearly something wrong with the way the app uses bandwidth because it simply disables all other net activity when running, no matter how much (or how little) bandwidth I actually allocate to it...! DOUG ENGELBART The first time I used this was years ago (when it came out), and now it runs on my G4 1.25 GHz with OSX.5.8 perfectly ... It's so wonderfully compact and at the same time full of helpful innovations. Just one thing: Why must it completely hide the inspector window automatically by force whenever I switch to another app? I want it to stay! (Version 1.75)

WIZEGUY I upgraded to 1.75, but I'm having problems with freezing (beach ball of doom) for about 1-2 seconds every 5 seconds or so. I can see the download stalling during the freezes, starting and then stopping again at the next freeze. Downgraded to 1.74 and everything's fine. I'm on 10.6.1 and the file being downloaded is HUGE +100GB...if that helps. Otherwise fantastic application. (Version 1.75)
